Let's Talk 72 Hour Kits

Happy New Year to you all!

As we kick off the new year, we are going to be focusing much on preparedness. Set a goal for yourself this month to get your 72 hour kit up to date. Ask members in your family to help and get involved. This would be a great Family Home Evening task to do. If you haven't started on a kit, now is the time to get going on it. It does take a little planning, but you can do it! I have listed below a basic list of what to put into your kit. Keep in mind that you will need to account for everyone in your family. Include medications you may need, a sewing kit, stress reliever games or activities, pictures and copies of important documents. If you would like a more detailed list, I can email it to you. There is also a printed copy on the RS Board in the hallway at our ward building. Please contact me (Julie Tyler) for help if you have questions or need help.

ULTIMATE 72-HOUR KIT

If sealed, the contents of this 72-hour kit will last for two years. Below is a listed of suggested items. You can replace food items that your family will realistically eat.

3 packs of instant oatmeal
3 packets of hot chocolate
2 granola bars
3 beef jerky sticks
3 apple cider packets
3 packs of Ramen
2 small cans of fruit (lunch size fruit cocktail things)
9 pieces of small hard candy (a pack of life savers would work)
1 small pack of gum
2 fruit snacks (this can be fruit roll-ups, small boxes of raisins, those fruit chew snacks...)
1 plastic spoon
Need 1 gallon of water for cooking these items (+ additional water for drinking 2-2 1/2 quarts per person per day, which is approx. 2 liters)

  1. I don't see any soup on the shopping list, but I see it in the menu. :)
